For all shuttle services (Retreats or Individuals), you must make advanced reservations. Please email us to make your reservation.

Departures

Shuttles depart from Nosara Retreat at 8 a.m. daily. Plan to arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to your scheduled departure time. If you would like to leave at another time, reservations can be made for an additional cost.

It is a scenic 2-½ hour drive from Liberia to Nosara. The cost is between $50-$60 per person each way and is based upon transportation type and your pick up time. Payment is due in cash (either US Dollars or Colones) upon arrival and prior to departure from Nosara Retreat. We will let you know the cost of your transportation when your reservation is confirmed.

Service between San Jose International Airport and Nosara Retreat

Nosara Retreat does not run regular shuttles from/to San Jose. You have the option to either hire your own taxi for the 5-hour trip from the San Jose airport to Nosara Retreat for approximately $240 or Nosara Retreat can make these arrangements for you.

Rental Car

You may reserve your own rental car from either airport. We recommend online bookings with National or Toyota because these car rental agencies allow one-way rentals for you to drop off your vehicle in Nosara or return to either airport.

If this is your first time traveling to Nosara, we strongly recommend that you drive during daylight hours, especially during the green season when rain can make navigating the road more difficult. The last 40-minute stretch to Nosara from the gas station in Samara is on a partially unpaved road that can be extremely bumpy and, at times, muddy.  It is best navigated in daylight.  Within Nosara, unpaved roads and lack of street names and streetlights make it easy to get lost. To have the best possible experience, please allow plenty of time to drive during the day. (Sunset is between 5:30 and 6:00pm, and it gets dark within a half hour.)

Advice for single women traveling alone

If you are renting a car, both solitude and social outings are easy to access at Nosara Retreat.  If you’re without a vehicle, you may be more comfortable booking lodging in the surfer’s beach, Playa Guiones. Nosara Retreat, on Playa Pelada, is somewhat off the beaten path. It is a half hour walk to most social activities.  There are five nice restaurants within walking distance of our property, but walking alone at night is not advised.  Unless you plan to take a taxi, which can be quite expensive, you may feel comfortable in a more central location. We recommend Kaya Sol, Nosara Beach Hostel, 4 You Hostel, or Guilded Iguana.
