Our Story

Since 1993 Nosara B&B Retreat was a private home. Eleven years later, we opened our doors as a cozy bed and breakfast. In 2007, a covered, open-air, teak wood pavilion was built to accommodate groups for retreats, gatherings, and ceremonies. Four years later, we officially added “Retreat” to our name so that those seeking spirituality, personal development, exploration and sustainability could find us. Our intention is to be a gathering place for a wide array of events supported by a like-minded community.

Vision

We seek to explore sustainable living and to build community connections. In offering this unique space, we hope to assist guests looking to discover or reawaken their own gifts and callings. This empowers each of us to discover our individual roles in healing ourselves, one another, and restoring the earth.

Our Approach

At Nosara B&B Retreat, our approach is pure and simple, just like the life here. Our charming property and quaint accommodations provide a safe surrounding to unwind and renew. The natural environment of the Costa Rican coast, rich in wildlife and nature, fosters relaxation and personal inquiry. Through friendly service and bilingual communication, we guide our guests towards the community’s leading offerings of nature, relaxation, adventure, and wellness.

Today the world faces significant change. Now, more than ever, people are embracing practices that simplify life and enhance well- being. Many seek tools for personal transformation and a deeper appreciation of nature. Some explore ways to share these insights with the larger world community. Nosara B&B Retreat provides a unique place to nurture these inclinations and to follow the calling of your heart.

Ecological Aspects

At Nosara B&B Retreat we encourage the natural growth of the jungle, a rare climatic zone known as “tropical dry forest,” by adding native fruit trees, flowers and vines whenever possible without altering the wild character of the land.

As an ecologically minded hotel, we use biodegradable cleaning products and a gray water system for irrigation. We compost food and garden waste to create rich organic fertilizer for our plants and fruit trees that include mango, papaya, lemon, star fruit, and Guanabana.

We participate in Nosara’s recycling program, recycling glass and plastic bottles, tetra pack juice and milk containers and tin cans. We burn scrap cardboard and paper using the carbon to mix with other natural waste products to create rich organic fertilizer for the gardens and trees.

Nursery

In our nursery we grow seedlings of local plants, flowers and fruit trees to plant around the property. Ask for a tour of our garden to witness our plentiful harvest of cilantro, cherry tomatoes, purple string beans, and squash. We are experimenting with organic seed varieties to see which types grow best here. We hope to increasingly provide food from our garden to our guests.

Habitat

Our property is habitat for passing howler monkeys, parrots, hummingbirds and numerous other bird species, butterflies, pizotes, iguanas, squirrels, mapaches, armadillos, toads, geckos and crickets. We border a protected forest area and a large nature preserve is just a few minutes away.
